the british are coming!

Three British artists you had better know:

Adele - she usually sings ballads, but this particular track has been getting remixed right and left, check out Dan Clare's take below

Mika - his songs are fun and catchy, and completely off the wall
Big Girls - Mika

Ellie Goulding - if you've been living under a rock for the past year, crawl out and get some Ellie in your system.  Her smooth voice over electro-pop beats are perfection.  This song has been getting a ton of playback on my end so enjoy:

can't behave

Deadmau5 randomly dropped this electropop track a bit ago.  It's way different from the stuff on his album, which is a good thing.   Take a listen!

happy holidays

As a Christmas fanatic I try my best to regulate the amount of Christmas music I listen to so I don't burn out before the actual day.  These two tracks I can listen to over and over.  I love the classic Bing Crosby/Nat King Cole genre of holiday music and these two tracks embody that with a modern twist.  They're obviously reworked but it's not obnoxious.  These songs can work in every situation, so play them at the family Christmas party, and then at the Ugly Sweater Party with your friends.

Merry Christmas and enjoy!

brought to you by...

here are two songs i heard from commercials that i immediately searched and downloaded

the first is from a stupid jewelry store commercial, the ad itself is cheesy but the song is excellent
Girl Is On My Mind - The Black Keys

the next is from a subaru commercial which is actually pretty cool, and the song totally works with the ad.  it really made me want to listen to more of Sean Hayes' stuff, he reminds me of a mountain version donavon frankenreiter
Powerful Stuff - Sean Hayes

my moon, my man

I just came across this Feist song, which put me in the mood for more Feist.  I feel like she got a bad rap with 1, 2, 3, 4 (sure it was a hit, but that's just not the kind of song that can survive MTV and radio overkill).  Her other stuff is great, and she has this smooth, almost eerie vibe, mixed with a bit of funk.  Check out the songs below and enjoy.

One Evening (VV Mix) - Feist

Inside and Out - Feist

longest road

this week's been pretty cold and gray, which makes me want to listen to music that has more of a wintery trance-like vibe.  here's a list of the songs i've been craving this week:

The Longest Road ft Morgan Paige & Lissie by Deadmau5 was taken down for copyright infringement (wah) but check out the track on youtube, it's one of my favorites

here's a nice bubbly guster tune.  i love it when they break out the ukelele
What You Call Love - Guster

i love the "original" OC version of this song.  this is a nice edit i heard recently
Dice (William Orbit Mix) - Finley Quaye

i never get tired of this collaboration between ben harper and the portuguese singer vanessa de mata
Boa Sorte - Ben Harper y Vanessa de Mata

some trippy MGMT to sit back to
Congratulations - MGMT

e-dubble dropped this freestyle friday yesterday, you'll recognize Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Music For a Found Harmonium off the 500 days of summer soundtrack
Harmonium (freestyle friday #41) - e-dubble

more guster, this one speaks for itself
Come Downstairs and Say Hello - Guster

catchy but relaxed
Your Biggest Mistake by Ellie Goulding was also taken down, be sure to check it on youtube or itunes

oh boy what a blog!

To kick this thing off i'm posting some of my favorite songs, some old, some new, but all songs i'm still listening to right now.  Enjoy and stay tuned.

great mashup, kinda old but catchy
Push the XXO Burton (Sugababes vs. MIA) - Marc Johnce

we're all still loving "like a g6" after months and months of college listening, and now the sudden mainstream explosion - here's another track of theirs
Dance Like Michael Jackson - Far East Movement

this song reminds me of high school, everything pharrell touches is gold
Don't Worry About It - N.E.R.D.

i didn't like this song at first, but after a few listens i started to catch on, and this mix is the best i've come across - i like it better than the original
Fuck You (Dan Clare Extended Mix) - Cee Lo Green

DJ M.i.F. does some great mashups.  this one always pumps me up, and i'm such a sucker for Wicked Games by Chris Issak
Lift Up The Wicked Technology (Deadmau5 vs. Daft Punk vs. Moby vs. Chris Isaak vs. Milow vs. Thomas Gold) - DJ M.i.F.

i'm really liking Bruno Mars' new stuff, this song is pretty cheesy, but catchy and cute, and has a great doo-wop vibe (guess that's why the new album is titled Doo-Wops and Hooligans
Marry You - Bruno Mars

huge bob sinclar fan, this is a great track to listen to with the windows down in the middle of summer
Rainbow of Love ft. Ben Onono - Bob Sinclar

of course i have to include some Deadmau5, i was going to put down You & I but thought i'd add a newer track.  Sofi Needs a Ladder gets better every time i hear it
Sofi Needs A Ladder - Deadmau5

next up is some oldschool Kings of Leon
Taper Jean Girl - Kings of Leon

passion pit's the reeling is one of those songs that never gets old to me.  i like the original so much more than any remixes i hear
The Reeling - Passion Pit

fun tiesto track
Work Hard Play Hard ft. Kay - Tiesto

another M.i.F. mashup.  i'm a big florence and the machine fan.  Bakerman is a great laid back (get it?) track to sync with it
You Got the Bakerman (Florence & The Machine vs. Laid Back vs. Moby vs. Michael Jackson) - DJ M.i.F.
